Adam Kolberg took over as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Fairmont State University on Feb. 15, 2021. Kolberg is the first strength and conditioning coach to directly oversee the training for Fairmont State University Athletics.
In his first year as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Kolberg promoted seven student-athletes were named as National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Collegiate All-Americans (Brocton Blair, Katy Darnell, Carlina Jacquez, Taylor Kennedy, PJ Lanham, Keara Lewis, and Reghan Mollohan).
In 2022, Kolberg also initiated an annual Lift-A-Thon fundraising event for the strength & conditioning program at Fairmont State. This event has raised funds for enhancements to the Fairmont State Strength & Conditioning Department. During the first three years, this event has raised over $34,000 for the strength & conditioning program.
Additionally, Koberg currently serves as an Assistant Director for the West Virginia State/Advisory Board, helping to represent the state of West Virginia within the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Kolberg brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, holding experience in professional baseball, Division I athletics and Division II athletics.
Kolberg most recently served as the Physical Performance Coach for the Colorado Rockies Class A affiliates in Scottsdale, Ariz. and Asheville, N.C. In his role with the Rockies, which began in Feb. 2019, Kolberg directed the physical preparation program with the team by implementing individualized training programs for each player. He also coached athletes through strength training, mobility and conditioning exercises, and collaborated with medical and skills staff on workload and return-to-play protocols. He also educated athletes and coaches on nutrition, mobility, training and recovery concepts.
Kolberg has also spent two different stints serving as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Pro Elite Strength & Conditioning in Morgantown, W.Va. He worked at Pro Elite from May 2015 through May 2017, and rejoined the staff in Sept. 2019. In his role at Pro Elite, Kolberg coordinated and implemented physical training programs for all high school and middle school baseball athletes.
From Dec. 2017-Feb. 2019, Kolberg resided in Tampa, Fla., where he served as Director of Strength & Conditioning at KineticPro Perfomance. During his time in Tampa, Kolberg also served as Volunteer Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of Tampa from Sept. 2017-May 2018. Later in 2018, Kolberg was hired as Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for Player Development with the New York Yankees Gulf Coast League affiliate in Tampa.
While earning his degrees at West Virginia University, Kolberg also gained experiences as an intern for the WVU Athletics Department and a graduate assistant for WVU School of Medicine.
Kolberg earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University in 2013. He continued his education by obtaining a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from WVU in 2015. Kolberg also minored in Aquatic Therapy while at WVU.
Adam and his wife, Shyler, and their daughter, Ruby Max, currently reside in Morgantown.
