Derek Pugh enters his third season on the men's basketball staff at Fairmont State University. He is entering his first year as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach after serving as a graduate assistant for the Falcons during his first two seasons in Fairmont.

Last season, the Falcons compiled a record of 21-8, which included a third-place finish in the MEC regular season standings with a 17-5 conference mark. The season was headlined by a 98-97 home win over No. 1-ranked West Liberty (1/28/18), and a 78-74 win over No. 9-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (12/6/17).

During his first season in Fairmont, Pugh helped lead the Falcons to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game with a 34-3 overall record. The Falcons also won the program's first regular season conference championship in 21 years during the 2016-17 season.

Pugh came to Fairmont State following four seasons as a manager and student assistant at NCAA Division I Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
 
In his role at Fairmont State, Pugh assists in all aspects of the men’s basketball program, working primarily with game and practice film breakdown, team travel and daily practice planning.
 
While at Miami (Ohio), Pugh was instrument in the team’s film breakdown and team travel arrangements. Pugh has also worked as a Youth Basketball Camp Instructor in Massillon, Ohio since 2008 and was also a head AAU basketball coach for DB Hoops in Akron, Ohio from the spring of 2013 to the summer of 2014.
 
Pugh received a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health from Miami University in the spring of 2016 and will pursue a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Fairmont State University.
