Devin Heath-Granger

Devin Heath-Granger was elevated to the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach in July 2022 and will enter his fifth season with the the Falcons program in the fall of 2023. Prior to the promotion, Heath-Granger was the assistant men's basketball on head coach Tim Koenig's staff.  Heath-Granger arrived in Fairmont during August of 2019 after coaching stints at Wheeling University and Marian University (Ind.).

During the 2022-23 season, Heath-Granger's coaching efforts helped the Falcons reach their fifth-consecutive NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance. The Falcons won the most games in a season (24) since the 2016-17 national runner-up season. Heath-Granger coached Isaiah Sanders to NABC All-Region First Team and All-MEC First Team honors. Also earning postseason recognition with Heath-Granger's mentorship was George Mangas (All-MEC Second Team) and Zyon Dobbs (All-MEC Honorable Mention).

The Fighting Falcons closed the 2021-22 season with their eighth appearance in the NCAA Atlantic Regional in the last 10 seasons as Fairmont State finished No. 24 in the final edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Poll. Fairmont State men's basketball also ranked as high as No. 7 in the NABC National Poll after knocking off West Liberty on January 15 of this year.
"Being a part of the coaching staff here at Fairmont State for the past three years has been an honor and I am humbled to take on this new position. I can't thank Coach Koenig enough for his belief and trust in me as a coach," said Heath-Granger. "I am so thankful for our players and their commitment to our program day in and day out."

Fairmont State men's basketball has been getting done off the court as well as the Falcons have had a team grade-point average over 3.0 in all three seasons with Koenig on the bench and reached a 3.5 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year. Nine men's basketball student-athletes were named to the All-MEC Academic Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll for their success in the classroom this past year.

In 2021, he helped lead the Falcons to a 15-5 overall record as the team won the program's first conference tournament championship since 1984. En route to the title, the Falcons knocked-off a pair of nationally ranked teams - topping No. 12 Charleston in the semifinals and No. 19 West Liberty in the finals. The Falcons also qualified for the NCAA Atlantic Regional for the seventh time in the last nine seasons. 

During his first season on the Fairmont State bench, Heath-Granger helped the Falcons to a 23-7 record and a berth in the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament for the sixth time in the last eight years. The Falcons finished third in the MEC regular season standings with a 22-6 mark, including a 16-6 conference record and a 6-0 non-conference mark. The 23 wins are tied for the most by a first-year coaching staff in program history.

Heath-Granger spent the 2018-19 season as the Director of Basketball Operations at Marian University (Ind.), where he helped the program capture its first-ever trip to the NAIA Final Four. The Knights won 28 games that season, which was the most wins in school history.

The Knights entered the NAIA National Tournament as the No. 3-seed before winning three tournament contests with an average winning margin of 25 points, highlighted by an 105-66 win over Briar Cliff in the national quarterfinals. The Knights would eventually fall to national champion Spring Arbor University in the semifinals.

Following the 2018-19 season, Heath-Granger helped mentor three All-Crossroads League selections while serving an assistant with the Knights. He worked mainly with the perimeter players and was instrumental in the development of guard Wes Stowers, the all-time leading scorer and assists holder at Marian University, and guard T.J. Henderson, who would go on to set the single-season record for steals during 2018-19.

Heath-Granger also worked with post Reggie Kissoonlal, who was a second team All-Crossroads League standout and the all-time blocks leader at the university.

Prior to Marian, Heath-Granger served as the head coach of the Northside Spartans AAU team in Indianapolis and as the junior varsity coach at Goshen College (Ind.).

Prior to receiving an opportunity on Koenig’s staff at Fairmont State, Heath-Granger spent the summer of 2019 as an assistant coach at MEC-foe Wheeling University. He was a part of the Cardinals’ program from April through August.

As a collegiate player, Heath-Granger was a four-year starter and three-year captain at Goshen College. He graduated as the all-time program leader in assists with 581 and ranks third all-time in steals with 202. He capped his career by surpassing the 1,000-point plateau and earning All- Crossroads League honors as a senior.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Heath-Granger earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Goshen College in 2018.
