George Wilmore returns for his fifth season as a member of the Fairmont State men's basketball staff in 2018-19. He enters his third season as a full-time assistant after serving as graduate assistant during his first two seasons in Fairmont.
Last season, Wilmore helped lead Fairmont State to a 21-8 overall record, which included a third-place finish in the MEC regular season standings with a 17-5 conference mark. The season was headlined by a 98-97 home win over No. 1-ranked West Liberty (1/28/18), and a 78-74 win over No. 9-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (12/6/17).
Two seasons ago, Wilmore helped Fairmont State make a run to the NCAA Division II National Title Game with an overall record of 34-3. The 2016-17 Falcons also won the program's first Regular Season conference championship in 21 years and became the second team in school history to advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
During his first two seasons at Fairmont State as a graduate assistant, the Falcons recorded back-to-back, 20-win seasons and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament during both seasons.
Prior to joining the FSU coaching staff, Wilmore served as a student assistant coach at Winthrop from 2009-12.
Wilmore assists with all aspects of the men's basketball program, including practice preparation, film breakdown, camps and all other administrative and operational responsibilities within the program.
Two seasons ago, the Falcons ended the year with a 25-5 overall record, earning a bid to the Atlantic Regional in Wheeling. The 2015-16 Falcons were also ranked for 15-consecutive weeks in the NABC National Rankings, including 14 weeks in the top 10. The Falcons were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country last season.
In his first season at FSU, the Falcons finished with a record of 22-11 overall and a 16-6 mark in the MEC. He also helped FSU to its second NCAA Tournament appearance in the last three years.
While at Winthrop, the Eagles made an NCAA Tournament appearance following the 2009-10 season.
Wilmore was most recently the head varsity basketball coach at Lewisville High School in South Carolina for one season. Prior to taking the head job at Lewisville, Wilmore was an assistant track coach at Fort Mill High School and was the assistant basketball coach at York Comprehensive High School.
Wilmore also served two stints as an assistant basketball coach at Great Falls High School, helping the team win a record-setting 10 South Carolina Class A State Championships.
Wilmore received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and earned his teaching certification in December 2012 from Winthrop University.
