Alec Moran joins the Fairmont State University tennis staff as an assistant for his second stint in January 2022.
Moran previously served as the tennis graduate assistant at Salem University from 2019-2020. During his time at Salem, both squads achieved Top 10 Atlantic Regionals rankings (Women #3, Men #10). The women who finished the covid-shortened season ranked #47 in the country - the highest in school history.
During his time at Salem, Gianfranco Germinara received the “Atlantic Regional Freshman of the Year” award, as well as Ana Kunic who received the “National Player to Watch” award.
While at Salem, he completed his MBA with an emphasis in Sports Management with a 3.8 GPA.
He worked as the tennis director at Camp Watitoh in the summer of 2020 in Beckett, Massachusetts, where he ran all tennis lessons, clinics, hitting sessions, and free play events.
Moran’s first stint as an assistant coach at Fairmont State University came when he coached for one year during the 2018-2019 season.
Moran worked as a tennis instructor at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown, WV from 2019-2020, teaching private lessons, group clinics, and assisting with facility maintenance.
During the summer of 2019, Moran was a camp instructor for the WVU Women’s Tennis Camp, held at Summit Tennis Academy.
Moran’s tennis instructing days date back to high school, with the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, during the summers of 2013-2015. He also taught TGA tennis programs at Fairmont Catholic and East Park Elementary in 2018 and 2019.
Moran graduated with a bachelor’s of science in architecture (cum laude) from Fairmont State University in 2018. He was a four-year member of the men’s tennis team at Fairmont State, which experienced a wealth of achievement during his time as a player in the program.
In 2017-2018, the Falcons made their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance, with the Falcons falling just one match short of the NCAA DII "Sweet 16". During the 2016-2017 season, the Falcons tied for their first and only Mountain East Conference regular-season championship. Moran’s best career singles victory came in March 2016, when he defeated the No. 4 singles player from NCAA Division 1 Norfolk State. Moran was selected twice to the MEC All-Academic First Team.
Alec is currently a USTA 5.0-rated tennis player. He also enjoys playing golf with friends and hiking with his girlfriend, Katelyn, and their dog, Winnie. He is currently a Sales Development Representative at Gravy.
Moran is from Shinnston, W.Va. He is a graduate of Lincoln High School, where he holds the school record for career tennis victories at No. 1 singles with 69. He was also the varsity basketball captain and was a member of the National Honor Society.
