Kayla Kurczak

Kayla Kurczak enters her ninth season as Head Women's Tennis Coach at Fairmont State University after taking over the program in August 2013.

In her eight years leading the program, Kurczak has led the Falcons to six Mountain East Conference Tournament appearances and women's tennis standouts have earned all-conference honors 11 times under her leadership - including four first-team selections.

In 2021, the Fairmont State women went 5-8 during their condensed spring season. Following the season, a trio of lady Falcons earned All-MEC honors, including first team selection Ainara Pastor Garcia. Isadora Matos and Candela Sevilla were both named to the MEC second team.

During the 2019-20 season, Kurczak and the Falcons were off to one of the best starts during her tenure with a 6-3 overall record. However, the remainder of the season was canceled on Mar. 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No. 1 singles standout Ainara Pastor Garcia ranked fifth in the region by the ITA following the completion of fall play in 2019.

During her sixth season leading the program in 2018-19, Kurczak led the Falcons to a 7-13 overall record. Following the season, a pair of Fairmont State standouts earned All-MEC honors - including first-team selection Trinite' Klamadji and second-team selection Isadora Matos. Klamadji entered the spring as the No. 3 ranked player in the Oracle/ITA Atlantic Region Tennis Rankings, while the team of Klamadji and Matos ranked 10th in the doubles rankings.

Kurczak led the Falcons to a 10-8 overall record during the 2017-18 season, giving Fairmont State the No. 5 seed in the MEC Tournament back in the fall. Fairmont State ace Trinite' Klamadji earned first team All-MEC honors for the second-consecutive season, and freshman Heloisa Adams garnered second team accolades. Both players also earned top-20 regional rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association following the fall semester.

In addition to being a first team All-MEC standout three times during her career, Klamadji also took home Google Cloud Academic All-District honors in May of 2018 as the junior had a 4.0 grade-point average as an Information Systems Management major at Fairmont State.

In 2016-17, the Falcons wrapped up the year with an 8-10 overall record as Trinite' Klamadji earned first team All-MEC honors as the No. 1 player for the Falcons.

In 2015-16, the Falcons finished above .500 with an overall record of 11-9. FSU was led by Taylor Nichols in 2015, as the senior earned All-MEC honors for the third-straight year.

In her first two seasons as head women's tennis coach, Kurczak coached Nichols to second team All-MEC honors following each season.

Kurczak's teams have also excelled in the classroom, as the squad was named an ITA All-Academic Team in each of the last seven seasons since 2014-15.

In addition, Erin McKown (2015) and Caitlin Crutchfield (2014) earned the Easton K. Feaster Award in back-to-back years. The award is presented annually to the senior athlete with the highest grade-point average.

Kurczak was a four-year member of the women’s tennis team at Fairmont State for head coach Ken Miller from 2004-2007. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Graphic Technology from FSU. Kurczak currently resides in Fairmont.
