FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Hailey Garrett scored a career-high 29 points to lead Fairmont State past Shaw, 93-56, on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the MEC/CIAA Challenge at Joe Retton Arena.
Garrett went 11-of-11 from the floor and also pulled down nine rebounds in the victory.
Emily Puskarich (18 points, 10 assists) and
Hallie Gunnoe (16 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded a double-double in the victory for the Falcons.
Emily Lohr was the fourth FSU player to reach double-figures with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc.
The Falcons shot a sizzling 63 percent from the floor in the opening half to race out to a 53-26 lead at the half. Shaw shot just 33 percent from the field in the loss.
FSU also had a 41-32 advantage on the glass and tallied 27 assists on 34 made baskets on the afternoon. The Falcons buried 12 three-pointers compared to just three for the Bears.
Shaw was led by Verdine Warner with 17 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Tabatha Anderson chipped in nine points for the Bears.
The Falcons will host Alderson Broaddus at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup at Joe Retton Arena.
