Falcons Roll Past Fighting Scots, 73-43

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State allowed just 12 field goals in a 73-43 victory over Ohio Valley on Thursday evening to start the season with a 4-0 record for the first times since the 2006-07 season.

Hailey Garrett once again led the Falcons with 20 points to go along with seven boards. Emily Lohr chipped in 18 points and a team-high nine rebounds while Gabrielle Etter came off the bench and chipped in a career-high 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. Hallie Gunnoe also reached double figures with 10.

Fairmont State shot 47 percent from the floor and held a 48-34 advantage in rebounding. The Falcons also scored 34 points in the paint and had 22 second-chance points in the victory. Ohio Valley managed just 21 percent from the floor and made just four field goals in the second half.

The first half was close early with OVU holding a lead for 3:06 by as many as three points but Fairmont State used a 13-5 run over the final 3:43 of the half to go to the locker room with a 41-28 lead. FSU stretched its halftime lead to as many as 33 late in the game before wrapping up 73-43 victory.

FSU will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip.
