FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Glenville State shot over 50 percent from the floor and held a 44-34 advantage on the glass in a 97-84 victory over Fairmont State on Monday evening at Joe Retton Arena.
With the win, GSC improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mountain East Conference. The Falcons fall to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
The Pioneers also had a 42-30 scoring advantage in the paint and had seven blocks in the victory. GSC also went 26-of-34 from the free throw line on 26 FSU fouls.
Fairmont State managed just 41 percent from the floor.
Wil Martinez Correa had 21 points after sinking 6-of-12 from behind the arc.
Caleb Davis added 18 points and a team-high four assists while
Thomas Wimbush had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Glenville State was led by Donte Morales with 25 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three block shots in the victory. Brett Morris also chipped in 19 points and seven rebounds. Sedric Nady (17), Reggie Williams (14) and Kade Kager (14) also reached double figures for the Pioneers.
The Falcons jumped out to a 13-7 lead at the 15:59 mark of the openeing half before Glenville went on a 21-5 run over the next seven minutes to open up a 28-18 lead. Fairmont State cut the margin back to six on two occassions late in the half but the Pioneers finished strong to push their halftime lead to 44-33.
Fairmont State opened the second half on a 10-2 run over the first three minutes to cut Glenville's halftime advantage to three (46-43). However, Glenville State opened up a 13-point lead less than two minutes later, keyed by a 10-0 run. Fairmont State was able to cut the margin back to single-digits just one more time at the 14:12 mark (56-47) before the Pioneers build a game-high 22-point lead at the 1:49 mark and wrapped up the 97-84 victory.
The Falcons will travel to Lincoln (PA) on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip against the Lions. FSU will return home on December 4 against the University of Charleston.
