FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Hallie Gunnoe and
Hailey Garrett scored 45 of Fairmont State's 88 points to lead the Falcons to an 88-80 victory over Bluefield State on Wednesday evening at Joe Retton Arena.
With the victory, FSU improves to 8-2 overall and wrapped up a 6-0 mark in non-conference play for the season. BSC slips to 6-5 on the season.
Gunnoe finished the game with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists while Garrett chipped in 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Garrett scored 16 of her points in the opening half.
Emily Lohr and
Emily Puskarich also reach double figures with 12 points apiece for the Falcons. Ten of Puskarich's 12 points came in the second half of the game.
Fairmont State shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor and hit 7-of-15 three-point attempts in the victory. The Falcons were also 25-of-27 (92.6%) from the free throw line and had 20 assists on 28 made field goals.
After shooting just 38 percent from the floor in the opening half, Bluefield State shot 57 percent in the second half to erase the double digit margin the Falcons held for a majority of the game and cut the final score to 88-80. The Falcons led by as many as 19 points at the 10:01 mark of the second half.
Charity Wiggins scored a team-high 19 points for the Blues while Tenika Jackson came off the bench to score 17. Tasia Nolan filled the stat sheet for the Blues with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The Blues held a 37-32 advantage on the glass and outscored the Falcons, 44-30, in the paint.
FSU will now be off for the holiday break before returning to action on January 3 when Urbana comes to town for a 2 p.m. tip.
