Mountain Lions Hold Off Falcons, 94-91

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord held off Fairmont State, 94-91, on Saturday afternoon in Athens after leading the Falcons by as many as 23 in the second half.

With the loss, FSU drops to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the Mountain East Conference. Concord improves to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the league.

The Mountain Lions shot 60 percent from the floor in the victory. Fairmont State shot 44 percent in the game, including 55 percent in the second half after making just 12 first half field goals. Fairmont State knocked down 29-of-31 free throw attempts compared to just 26-of-35 for the Mountain Lions.

Trailing 44-25 at the half, Fairmont State out-scored the Mountain Lions, 66-50, in the second half before CU held-off the comeback and wrapped up the 94-91 win. CU went 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game to help wrap up the victory over the Falcons.

Jamel Morris led the Falcons with 29 points before fouling out of the game. Chase Morgan (21), Nick Harney (19) and Shammgod Wells (12) also reached double figures for FSU. Thomas Wimbush led the Falcons on the glass with eight rebounds.

Mike Boyd finished the game with a team-high 24 points and seven assists after going 6-of-8 from the field and 12-of-12 from the free throw line. Aaron Miller also had a 20-point performance for the Mountain Lions with 20.

FSU will return to action on Monday evening at UVa-Wise, tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
