FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State shot 63 percent from the floor in the second half and rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat Shepherd, 89-77, on Thursday night at Joe Retton Arena.
Nick Harney scored a career-high 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Falcons in the victory.
Shepherd shot a sizzling 76 percent (16-of-21) from the field in the opening half and led by as many as 12 before taking a 42-35 lead into the locker room. Austin Cunningham and Naim Muhammad each scored nine points to lead the Rams in the opening half. Fairmont State used nine offensive rebounds and 11 SU turnovers to stay within striking distance in the first half. FSU scored 15 points off turnovers and eight second-chance points in the opening half.

Chase Morgan at the 12:07 mark gave the Falcons a 56-55 advantage. After grabbing the lead on Morgan's three, Fairmont State never trailed again and build its second half advantage to as many as 15 with just under a minute to play before wrapping up the 89-77 victory.
In addition to Harney's career-high performance, Morgan came off the bench to chip in 17 points after knocking down four three-pointers.
Jamel Morris added 15 points despite struggling from the field and
Thomas Wimbush recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Vega came off the bench and had a team-high seven assists from the point.
Shepherd got 18 points from Cunningham, 16 from Muhammad, 12 from AJ Carr and 10 from Steffen Davis in the loss. Morgan McDonald had a team-high seven rebounds.
The Falcons scored 32 points off 19 SU turnovers and had 12 second-chance points in the victory. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor with the Rams holding the advantage at 57.8 percent. FSU shot 51.6 percent from the field in the game.
FSU will look to split the season home-and-home with the University of Charleston on Saturday when they meet the Golden Eagles at Eddie King Gym. Tip is set for 5 p.m.
