FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State used a balanced offensive attack to defeat The University of Virginia's College at Wise, 41-32, on Saturday afternoon in Fairmont's 2015 Homecoming game.
With the win, FSU improved to 4-3 both over and in the Mountain East. UVa-Wise falls to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the league.
Terrell Charles led the FSU rushing attack in the victory with 28 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the game's opening two and a half minutes.
James Oliver also added 34 yards and a touchdown on the ground and
Aaron Willis scored on an end-around from nine yards out to post Fairmont's fourth rushing touchdown of the afternoon.
Quarterback
Cooper Hibbs completed 19-of-31 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown in the win. He did suffer his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter.
Fabian Guerra led FSU through the air with six catches for 77 yards. All four FSU receivers who caught a pass in the game recorded at least 50 yards.
LaChristopher Lee hauled in six passes for 66 yards,
Devon Garnett chipped in three receptions for 64 yards and
Brandon Boyd snagged four receptions for 54 yards. Garnett was the only FSU receiver to catch a touchdown, catching a 34-yard strike with 41-ticks remaining in the opening half.
Jacob Jean-Charles led the FSU defense with 11 solo tackles and an interception in the win.
Marcus Porter added eight total tackles and defensive back
Siddiq Kanneh notched six tackles and four pass break-ups.
The Falcons totaled 432 yards on 82 offensive snaps compared to 389 yards on 76 plays for visiting UVa-Wise. The Falcons also held a significant 171-56 advantage in rushing yards in the victory.
In addition, FSU held a 5-1 margin in forced turnovers and had a six-minute advantage in time of possession.
The teams were also perfect in the red-zone, each going 4-of-4. Both teams also converted on more than 50 percent of their third-down tries.
Back-up quarterback Daniel Lewis guided the Cavalier offense with 333 yards on 26-of-48 passing and four touchdowns in the loss. Lewis also threw three interceptions. Terrence Younger and Carlton Griffith each hauled in six catches and 75 yards for the Cavs through the air. James Cousins added five catches for 57 yards through the air. Younger and Cousins each caught a pair of touchdowns for UVa-Wise.
Javonte Latney led the Cavaliers on the ground with 60 yards on 15 carries.
Zach Blair recorded a game-best 15 tackles, including 13 solo and a sack. Blair, who led NCAA Division II in tackles for loss heading into the week recorded three in the game and also recovered a fumble.
The Falcons will travel to Notre Dame College next weekend for a noon kickoff in South Euclid.
