SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Fairmont State picked up a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame College on Saturday evening to sweep its Ohio road trip over the weekend. The win marks the seventh-straight for the FSU volleyball team.
The Falcons raced out to a quick 2-0 lead by winning the first two sets in dominating fashion (25-11, 25-15). However, Notre Dame College faught back and edged FSU, 25-23, in both the third and fourths sets to force a fifth set. FSU responded in the final set, rolling to a 15-8 win and picking up the victory.
Fairmont State (11-5, 3-0) was led by
Mackenzie Harrison with a match-high 17 kills in the victory.
Kaitlyn Witsaman also chipped in 13 kills and
Erin Harwood recorded a double-double with 10 kills, 13 digs. Harwood also recorded a team-best six aces and four blocks.
Megan Clerico once again led FSU with 24 digs and also reached double-figure assists with 10.
Jessica Furda tallied a team-high 28 assists in the victory and freshman
Alexa Gore passed out 17.
Lindsay Shirilla led NDC with a team-high 15 kills in the match. Tawny Flareau filled the stat sheet for Notre Dame, recording 19 assists and 17 digs.
The Falcons held a 12-3 advantage in aces and a 10-6 advantage in blocks in the win.
FSU will travel to Shepherd on Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. MEC matchup with the Rams.
