Falcons Push Win Streak To Nine With Win Over 'Toppers

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After dropping the first set to West Liberty on Friday evening at Joe Retton Arena, the Falcons won three-straight sets to pick up a 3-1 victory over the Hilltoppers in Mountain East Conference action.
 
Fairmont State (13-5, 5-0 MEC) was led by Breanna Blot with 13 kills, eight digs and four block assists in the victory. Erin Harwood finished with a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs while fellow senior Courtney Kress chipped in 12 kills and three blocks. Kaitlyn Witsaman, who was honored prior to the game for recorded her 1,000th career kill this week, also chipped in nine kills and 16 digs.
 
Jessica Furda finished the evening with 42 assists and 18 digs and libero Megan Clerico recorded a team-best 25 digs.
 
Stephanie Leonard led West Liberty (9-11, 2-3 MEC) with a team-high 15 kills and 21 digs in the four-set loss. Amanda Leonard also recorded a double-double for WLU with 10 kills, 19 assists and eight digs. Courtney Pyeritz had a team-high 35 digs and Miranda Garmenn helped guide the 'Topper offense with 20 assists.
 
Sydney Scherer and Michaela Hawkins led the Hilltoppers around the net with four blocks apiece.
 
FSU will face nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday evening at Joe Retton Arena. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
