Falcons Win Five-Set Thriller To Pick Up 20th Victory

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State won the final two sets to pick up a 3-2 victroy (22-25, 29-27, 18-25, 25-17, 15-10) over Shepherd on Saturday evening at Joe Retton Arena. With the win, the Falcons picked up their 20th win of the season and are now 20-7 overall and 11-2 in the league.

Mackenzie Harrison filled the stat sheet with 16 kills, seven digs and three total blocks in the victory. All three seniors also recorded double-figure kills, including Courtney Kress (15), Erin Harwood (14) and Kaitlyn Witsaman (11). Harwood recorded a double-double by recording 18 digs to go along with her 14 kills. Kress also recorded a team-high four total blocks.

Megan Clerico had a match-high 23 digs and six assists and setter Jessica Furda passed out 55 assists.The Falcons held a 10-7 advantage in aces and SU held a slim 10-8 advantage in blocks.

Shepherd (12-14, 7-6 MEC) was led by Sophie Foster and Amanda Snowden with 12 kills apiece in the match. Grace Simmons (11), Samantha Scroggins (11) and Christine Jackson (10) also reached double-digit kills for the Rams. Kelsey Anderson notched a team-high 21 assists and Cyera Dixon tallied 49 assists. In addition to tying for a team-high in kills, Foster also drove home six total blocks.

The Falcons recorded a .300 attacking percentage in the final two sets to help wrap up the win.

Fairmont State will travel to Glenville State for the final road game of the season on Friday at 7 p.m.
