FSU Picks Up Huge Road Win At Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Fairmont State used a 17-4 second half run to erase a four-point halftime deficit in an 79-72 win over Glenville State on Monday night at the Waco Center.

With the win, Fairmont State extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 15-6 overall and 12-3 in the MEC. The Pioneers dropped to 16-5 overall and 12-3 in conference play. The two teams are now tied for second in the league, one game behind West Liberty.

After leading by double figures at the midway point of the second half, Fairmont State's lead was cut to just three points twice in the closing minutes. The FSU lead was cut to three for the second time at the 1:41 mark, 74-71. On the next possession, Morris finished at the rim with a layup to put FSU back up by five as the clock rolled closer to the one-minute mark. Reggie Williams went 1-of-2 from the line on the opposite end but that would wrap up the scoring for Glenville as Morris went 3-of-4 from the line in the final 31 seconds to wrap up the 79-72 victory for the Falcons.

Jamel Morris, who missed the first meeting of the season back in November with an injury, led FSU with 22 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Shammgod Wells scored 13 points in the opening half and finished in double figures for the fourth-straight game with 19. Nick Harney, who was named MEC Player of the Week this afternoon, had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Both teams shot 44 percent from the field and the Pioneers held a slim 36-35 advantage on the glass. Fairmont State held a 36-30 margin scoring in the paint and scored 26 points-off turnovers and 26 second-chance points.

GSC was paced by 21 points from Donte Morales. Brett Morris scored 16 and Sedric Nady added 12. The Pioneers were plagued by 17 turnovers, while Fairmont State committed just nine.

FSU will now travel to Urbana for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Thursday evening.
