SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Nick Harney's 30-point performance helped lead Fairmont State past Notre Dame College, 72-62, on Saturday afternoon at Murphy Gymnasium in South Euclid.
Harney went 11-of-19 from the field, 8-of-8 from the free throw line and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Jamel Morris also chipped in 18 points and six rebounds while
Thomas Wimbush added nine points and eight boards.
With the victory, FSU improves to 17-6 overall and 14-3 in the Mountain East Conference. Notre Dame College falls to 12-11 overall and 8-9 in the league.
Tyree Gaiter led Notre Dame College with 22 points in the loss. Oliver Megins also reached double figures with 11. FSU limited Lawrence DeArmond to single digits for the second time this season, holding the senior to just nine points. DeArmond also had eight rebounds and five assists.
The Falcons shot 50 percent from the field and knocked down six three-pointers in the opening half to take a 37-34 lead into the locker room. Morris led the Falcons with 10 points in the first half. Morris and
Chase Morgan each had two three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
In the second half, Harney took over with 22 of his points and eight of his rebound as Fairmont State closed out the game on a 14-4 run to pick up the 72-62 victory.
The Falcons return to action on Thursday evening when Wheeling Jesuit visits Joe Retton Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
