No. 22 Concord Tops FSU, 27-10

ATHENS, W.Va. -- After going to the locker room with a 13-3 lead, Concord scored two third-quarter touchdowns to pull away from Fairmont State for the 27-10 victory at Callaghan Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the No.22-ranked Concord improves to 1-1 overall and in the Mountain East Conference. FSU drops to 0-2 on the season.

The Falcons scored their only touchdown of the game with 28 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter when Copper Hibbs hooked up with Fabian Guerra for the 16-yard touchdown strike. Guerra ended the game with 77 yards on nine receptions. Hibbs finished the day completing 19-of-29 passes for 143 yards and a score. Terrell Charles led the FSU ground attack with 16 carries for 48 yards.

After missing the first half of the game, Marcus Porter racked up eight total tackles, including six solo and three for a loss in the second half to lead the FSU defense. Emanuel Ivey and Quincy Redmon also chipped in seven tackles apiece for the Falcons.

Three different running backs crossed the goal line for the Mountain Lions this afternoon, led by Calvinaugh Jones with a pair of touchdowns and 62 yards on 20 carries. Justin Cogar added 32 yards on just six carries and Jamal Petty and Shaun Workinger each rushed for touchdowns in the win.

CU quarterback Brian Novak completed 10-of-13 passes for 161 yards on the afternoon. Jones was also Concord's leading receiver with 41 yards on a pair of receptions. Jermeil Douse had a 49-yard reception in the third quarter of the game to set up a scoring drive for the Mountain Lions.

Concord's defense allowed just 201 yards of total offense on the afternoon and was led by senior Austin Dodson with nine tackles.

FSU will return home next Thursday night when they play host to West Liberty for the MEC Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 7:10 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on the MEC Radio Network.
