FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State dropped a defensive struggle, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the first-ever Division II home game at Duvall-Rosier Field. Wheeling Jesuit's Karly Judy scored a break-away goal in the 69
th minute to give WJU the only goal of the afternoon.
The Falcons were outshot in the game, 20-8. FSU goal keeper
Shawna Graham collected 11 saves on 12 shots on goal, surrendering just one goal in the loss.
Erica Uselton and
Harley Boyd led FSU with three shots apiece on the afternoon.
Courtney Webb and
Breana Wright each had one shot on goal.
Eleven different players recorded shots for the Cardinals in the win, led by Sydney Lavengood with four shots. In addition to having a 12-shot advantage, WJU had a 5-1 margin in corner kicks as well.
Wheeling's goalkeeper, Holly Kraus, recorded five saves in the shutout win to improve to 2-2-1 on the year.
FSU will return to action on Thursday afternoon at home when Shepherd comes to town for a 12 p.m. start.
