Falcons Drop Two Five-Setters At MEC/PSAC Crossover

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- Fairmont State opened the MEC/PSAC Crossover at West Liberty by being edged in two very competitive five-set matches against Seton Hill and Shippensburg on Friday as the ASRC.

Seton Hill 3, Fairmont State 2 (25-17, 24-26, 25-15, 23-25, 15-10)

After Seton Hill grabbed a 2-1 lead after three sets, the Falcons forced a fifth-set by defeating the Griffins, 25-23 in the fourth set. However, Seton Hill grabbed a quick 7-1 advantage in the fifth set to take control and pick up a 15-10 win in the decisive set. The Falcons had an attacking percentage of just .100 in the narrow loss.

Setter Jessica Furda recorded a double-double with 49 assists and 20 digs. Libero Megan Clerico also chipped in 24 digs defensively for FSU.

Shippensburg 3, Fairmont State 2 (21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10)

After picking up a win in the opening set against SU, the Falcons dropped sets two and three against the Raiders. But for the second time of the day, the Falcons won a highly-competitive fourth set, 25-23, to force a fifth set to decide a winner. Shippensburg jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the fifth set and held at least a three-point advantage the rest of the way.

Seniors Erin Harwood and Witsaman each recorded 16 kills apiece for the Falcons while Harrison added 15. Harwood also recorded a team-high 24 digs while Furda recorded a career-high 56 assists to go along with 16 digs.
