FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held-off Fairmont State late, as the Cardinals picked up a 2-1 Mountain East Conference victory on Sunday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute when Natalie Indermuhle scored on a header after receiving a corner kick from Meghan Horan. The Falcons were outshot 7-3 in the opening half as Wheeling took a 1-nill advantage into halftime.

The scored remained the same until the 65
th minute when Sydney Lavengood scored another Wheeling Jesuit goal off of a corner kick, giving Horan her second assist of the game. Wheeling held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.

Abigail Pasierb kept hope alive for the Falcons just two minutes later when she scored on a rebound following a save by the Wheeling goalkeeper after a shot by Erica Usleton. The goal is Pasierb's first goal of the season.

In the match, Wheeling Jesuit held a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal as FSU goalkeeper
Shawna Graham recorded eight saves in the narrow loss.

Fairmont State (2-10-1, 0-10-1) has lost five matches by one goal this season.

The Falcons will now prepare for a road matchup with nationally ranked West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday evening in Buckhannon. The match is set for 7 p.m.
