WHEELING, W.Va. – Fairmont State opened the 2016 Mountain East Conference Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Notre Dame College on Thursday afternoon in Wheeling.
Mackenzie Harrison led the Falcons (20-12) with a double-double performance, recording 19 kills and 11 digs in the win over NDC. Harrison finished the match with just three errors, recording an attacking percentage of .356. The Falcons also got nine kills and four blocks from
Rebecca Feeney and eight kills from senior
Breanna Blot.
Jessica Furda also recorded a double-double for FSU with 37 assists and 10 digs.
Megan Clerico tallied a team-high 12 digs for the Falcons defensively.
Fairmont State out-hit Notre Dame by a .257-.088 margin and also held a 6-2 advantage in blocks.
Notre Dame was led by Melissa Maczuzak with 10 kills and eight digs in the match. NDC held a 5-2 advantage in aces.
With the win, Fairmont State advances to Friday's semifinal round against second-seeded Charleston. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
