No. 2 Falcons Continue To Roll, Top WSSU 94-82

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The second-ranked Fairmont State men's basketball team opened up a 48-32 halftime lead, then shot 66 percent from the field in the second half to take down Winston-Salem State, 94-82, on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.

The Falcons scored 60 points in the paint and 14 on the fast-break in the victory, improving the 9-0 on the season. Winston-Salem State slips to .500 at 5-5 on the year.

Matt Bingaya finished the evening with a team-high 22 points, including 16 points in the second half. The Falcons also got 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals from Thomas Wimbush, 13 points from D'Ondre Stockman and a career-high 11 points from Troy Cantrell. Trevor Andrews-Evans was also closing in on a double-double with eight points, nine rebounds and six blocks in the victory.

For the game, Fairmont State shot 57 percent from the field and held a 39-32 advantage on the glass. 

After struggling from the field in the opening half (38 percent), Winston-Salem State shot nearly 55 percent in the second half and outscored the Falcons 50-46 in the period. But it wasn't enough, as the Falcons still wrapped up a 12-point victory after leading by 16 at the break.

WSSU had a balanced scoring attack, getting 19 points and six rebounds from Nate Long, 18 points from Williams Crandell and 17 points and seven boards from Ameer Jackson before fouling out of the game.

Both teams turned the ball over 19 times on the afternoon.

The Falcons will now prepare for a 7:30 p.m. showdown with No. 17 Indiana (PA) on Monday evening on the road. It will be Fairmont State's third top 25 matchup of the season.
