SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Katie Nunan recorded a career-high 27 points to lead Fairmont State past Shepherd on Saturday afternoon in the 2015-16 regular season finale for the Lady Falcons.

Nunan shot 7-of-12 from the field and 13-of-14 from the free throw line and added five rebounds and two blocked shots.

With the win, the Falcons finish the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and a 12-10 mark in Mountain East Conference play. Fairmont State will be the fifth-seed in next week's MEC Tournament and will host 12
th-seeded Concord on Tuesday evening starting at 7 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.

After Shepherd jumped out to a 22-12 lead in the opening quarter, the Falcons turned things around quickly in the second, outscoring the Rams 21-13 to go to the locker room trailing by just a field goal.

The Falcons continued their strong play in the third, outscoring Shepherd 20-11 in the period and grabbing a nine-point lead at the 55-second mark of the quarter after and old-fashion three-point play by Nunan.

After a field goal by
Deidra Combs at the 9:44 mark of the fourth, Shepherd scored eight of the next 10 points, including four points by Morgan Arden, to cut the FSU lead tro just three (57-54) at the under-five media timeout.

In the final five minutes of the game, the score was tied twice before FSU held-off Shepherd in the final 3:24, allowing the Rams to score just two more field goals. During that stretch, FSU went 7-of-8 from the free throw line, including five from Nunan, to wrap up the 66-63 win.

In addition to Nunan's career-high,
Amanda Ruffner also chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds, finishing just shy of a double-double. FSU also got 10 points apiece from
Emily Puskarich and
Deidra Combs.

Shepherd (7-21, 6-16 MEC) was led by 22 points from Morgan Arden and got 12 from Kristen Nunn. Kari Lankford also reached double-figures, scoring 11 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Cara Mason passed-out seven assists and Lankford tallied five to help guide the SU offense. The Rams outrebounded FSU 42-31 and held a 38-28 scoring margin in the paint.
