LANTANA, Fla. -- Logan Johnson tossed a no-hitter on Monday afternoon at the Santaluces Complex in Lantana, Fla. to lead the Falcons to a 5-0 victory over Caldwell University in their first game of the day. The Falcons dropped game two of the day, 4-2, against Keiser University.
Johnson allowed just three base-runners the entire day, one due to a walk, one due to a fielder's choice and the other was allowed by an error by the Falcons. Johnson also stuck out three batters in his no-hitter performance. The senior totaled 120 pitches in nine innings of work against Caldwell.
Offensively, the Falcons were led by Alex Levitan, going 2-of-4 with a solo home run in the first inning for the Falcons. The Falcons also added two runs in the bottom of the second when Scott Hessler hit an RBI double and Josh Wine added an RBI single to make the score 3-0.
The Falcons were able to push their lead to 5-0 in the top of the third after Austin Norman and Levitan scored unearned runs following a fielding error by the second baseman. The Falcons totaled 10 hits in the victory and were aided by a pair of CU errors.
Three players reached base for Caldwell, starting with Paul Marinello in the top of the fourth after being walked. However, he didn't last long on the bases as the following batter hit into a 1-6-3 double play. CU also had a pair of baserunners in the top of the ninth due to an error by the Falcons. Following the error, the next batter also reached on a field choice for Caldwell's third baserunner of the day.
In their second game of the day, Keiser College topped the Falcons, 4-2, holding-off a comeback bid by Fairmont in the top of the fifth inning.
Keiser scored two runs in the first inning and added one more in the fourth to grab a 3-0 advantage more than halfway through the game. Adam Meeker brought home the first run of the game for the Falcons, hitting an infield single to score Tyler Krantz. Later in the inning, Levitan also recorded an RBI by driving home Ted Sova.
Keiser scored one more run in the sixth and held FSU off the scoreboard the rest of the day to picked up the 4-2 win.
The Falcons will remain in Florida for two more games tomorrow afternoon against Flagler College, starting at noon in St. Augustine.
