ABU Holds Off Fairmont State

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's seventh-inning rally fell short on Tuesday afternoon as Alderson Broaddus picked up a 12-7 victory over the Falcons in non-conference action at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

Tuesday was the home opener for the Falcons, as FSU slips to 11-9 on the season. ABU improved to 8-9.

It was all ABU early, breaking out to a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The six-run inning for FSU in the seventh started with a wild pitch by the Battlers that allowed Fraser Brown to score from third. Two batters later, Adam Meeker reached on an error by Alderson Broaddus when the first baseman was overthrown, scoring Jacob Whitmore from third.

Alex Levitan cut the ABU lead to 9-4 when his groundout to shortstop allowed Josh Wine to cross home plate. During the next at-bat, Austin Norman left the park in right center, cutting the Battler's lead to just three (9-6).

Nic Rush brought home his second RBI of the day later in the inning, doubling to left center to score Phil Longnecker from third. Rush scored the first run of the game for FSU in the sixth, bringing home Alex Levitan.

With ABU leading by just two (9-7) after seven innings, the Battlers scored three more runs in the final two innings and held FSU off the board the rest of the game to wrap up the win.

FSU will return to MEC play on Friday afternoon when the University of Charleston comes to town for a 1 p.m. start at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
