Concord Too Much For Fairmont State

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Concord was too much for Fairmont State in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Anderson Field in Athens. Concord picked up a 16-2 victory in game one before dropping a 17-7 decision in the evening.

Concord broke open an 8-0 lead after two innings and added six more in the fourth to win by a 14-run margin in game one. Austin Norman hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth and Jacob Whitmore added a second run for FSU on a sacrifice fly to provide the offense for the Falcons. FSU recorded 10 total hits in the game, including doubles by Nic Rush and Brooks Carr.

Concord totaled 19 hits in game one and was aided by four Fairmont State errors in the runaway victory.

The second game of the day was a track meet, with the teams combining for 40 hits and 24 runs. Concord scored 17 of the runs and recorded 24 of the hits, including 11 runs in the fifth inning to take the lead and roll to victory.

The Falcons took a 4-2 advantage after three innings thanks to RBI singles from Norman, Carr and Fraser Brown. Tyler Hill also grounded out in the second to bring home a fourth run for the Falcons during the inning.

The Falcons got two more runs from Brown in the ninth on a double into left field to score Scott Hessler and Phil Longnecker. Tyler Krantz also hit an RBI single later in the ninth to wrap up the scoring at 17-7, as the Mountain Lions took the sweep.

The Falcons will look to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon when UVa-Wise visits the Bridgeport Recreation Complex for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
