BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State erased a 2-0 deficit to down Ohio Valley, 5-2, on Wednesday evening at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
Â
After falling behind 2-0 after a two-RBI single by Justin Gil in the first, the Falcons (15-19) scored five unanswered runs to picking up a non-conference home win over the Fighting Scots.
Â
Brooks Carr cut the OVU lead in half in the bottom of the second when he hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot to right field.
Â
Ohio Valley (7-25) maintained its 2-1 lead until the bottom of the fifth when the Falcons scored three runs to take the lead.
Austin Norman scored the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home
Josh Wine. Later in the inning,
Jacob Whitmore hit an RBI single to right center and Carr struck again with a double to left center, making the FSU advantage 4-2.
Â
Wine scored the final run of the game in the sixth on a sac-fly to right field that plated
Scott Hessler from third.
Â
The Falcons totaled 13 hits in the win, including multiple hits from Wine, Norman, Carr and
Adam Meeker. FSU also tallied three doubles and three sacrifice hits (two sac-fly, one sac-bunt) in the win.
Â
Fairmont State used a four-person committee on the hill to get the win. The staff allowed just four hits, including just three hits in eight shutout innings following a two-run first inning for the Scots. FSU fanned six batters in the win, as
Houston Morris was credited with his first win of the season.
Â
FSU will now travel to Notre Dame College for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday in Avon, Ohio. Start time for Saturday's twin bill is set for 1 p.m.
