Webb Scores Three Goals as FSU Rolls Past Salem

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Courtney Webb recorded a hat-trick in the first 30:40 of today's 8-0 victory over Salem International University to lead Fairmont State to a lopsided season-opening win.

The win gives first-year head coach Kelsie Maloney her first career win as a college head coach.

It took under seven minutes for the Falcons to find the back of the Salem net as Harley Boyd found Webb down the center of the field for a breakaway goal at the 6:52 mark. Webb netted her second goal at the 12:56 mark on a rebound following a shot attempt by Abigail Johnson.

In the 21st minute, Erica Uselton put FSU on top 3-0 with an assist Stephanie DeLawder near the SIU net. Uselton then recorded an assist on the next two goals for the Falcons, including DeLawder's goal in the 29th minute and Webb's third goal of the game in the 30th minute.

The final three goals of the game came from first-year FSU players, starting with Savannah Chapman on a breakaway goal down the left side of the field, sprung by a pass from Cameryn Ciresi. Just over a minute later, Colleen Newsome found Taylor Kennedy breaking down the center of the field to cap the first half scoring with Fairmont out in front, 7-0.

The Falcons took their foot off the gas pedal early in the second half, but it didn't keep FSU from adding to its commanding lead as Gabi Mascaro found Katie Doyle for yet another breakaway goal, completing the eight-goal performance for the Falcons on opening day.

The Falcons scored eight goals on 12 shots on goal in the victory. FSU also limited the Tigers to just four shots attempts, including just two on goal. Shawna Graham recorded both FSU saves and recorded her first victory of the year in the FSU goal.

The Falcons will remain home for a non-conference matchup with the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus on Saturday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
