Fast Start Leads UC Past FSU, 3-1

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston used a fast start to defeat Fairmont State, 3-1, on a wet Sunday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field in Mountain East Conference women's soccer action.
 
Courtney Webb scored her seventh goal of the year late in the second half to help FSU avoid the shutout. Abigail Johnson was the only other FSU player to record a shot on goal as UC goaltender Zoe Zyta faced just five shots, recording one save.
 
Shawna Graham had a busy afternoon in the FSU net, recording 11 saves and facing 23 shots.
 
The Falcons were outshot, 23-5, in the loss, including a 20-0 UC advantage in the opening half. The University of Charleston also tallied six corner kicks.
 
UC took a 2-0 lead in the opening half, starting with a goal by Marieke Kramer in the 11th minutes to grab the early advantage. Ivey Nucilli added an unassisted goal in the 32th minute to wrap up the scoring in the opening half.
 
Adele Siegel used an assist by Ida Garberg in the 66th minute of the second half to put UC in front by a score of 3-0 a quarter of the way through the second half.
 
FSU will travel to West Liberty on Thursday afternoon for a 4 p.m. kickoff against the Hilltoppers.
