BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- After a slow start, Fairmont State rolled in the final three sets on Friday evening to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1, in the Mountain East Conference volleyball opener for both teams.

Wesleyan (3-10, 0-1 MEC) recorded a .308 attacking percentage in the opening set to edge the Falcons 26-24, taking an early lead at home. However, the Falcons came back with a vengeance in sets two, three and four, winning by set scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-9.

The Falcons (7-5, 1-0 MEC) recorded an attacking percentage of .423 in set two and .341 in set three to help the FSU gain control of the match after the slow start. Fairmont also held a 12-0 advantage in aces and recorded nearly twice as many kills as the Bobcats.

Breanna Blot led the Falcons with 13 kills and four aces in the victory, recording an attacking percentage of .591 in the match.
Mackenzie Harrison filled the stat sheet for the Falcons, recording 12 kills, seven digs, three aces and a block assist.
Julia Shemaitis (12) and
Rebecca Feeney (10) also reached double-figures for the Falcons on the evening. Shemaitis recorded a double-double, adding 18 digs to her 12 kills performance.

Megan Clerico recorded a team-high 23 digs and
Jessica Furda passed out a team-best 50 assists.

The Falcons will host California University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday evening in their 2016 home opener. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
