Lady Falcons Breeze Past WV State, 101-64

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State women's basketball team dominated from the opening tip in a 101-64 rout of West Virginia State on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena to improve to 8-6 on the season.
 
The Falcons shot over 70 percent from the floor in the first three quarters of the game and finished the evening shooting 40-of-66 from the field (60.6%). The FSU ladies also shot 10-of-18 from three (55.6%) and recorded 26 assists on 40 made baskets in the win.
 
With the win, FSU improves to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the Mountain East Conference. State falls to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in the league.
 
Emily Puskarich led the FSU offense with 24 points on 6-of-9 from behind the arc. The Falcons also got 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists from Deidra Combs and 18 points and five rebounds from Amanda Ruffner. Makenzie White was also just two assists from her second-career triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
 
The Falcons also dominated the paint by a 44-22 scoring margin and held a 14-2 margin on the fast break.
 
West Virginia State was limited to just 28.8 percent from the field and was led by Shealyn Shafer with 14 points and six rebounds. Sydney Bates also reached double-figures with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Falcons will now travel to Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon in search of their fourth-straight win. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
