Second-Ranked Falcons Blast Concord, Remain Unbeaten

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The second-ranked Fairmont State men rolled in the final 10 minutes of Thursday's win over Concord, extending a five-point margin at the midway point of the second half into a 27-point win (103-76).

The 19-0 start and 19-game winning streak is the longest for FSU since joining NCAA Division II. The Falcons also improved to 13-0 in league play. CU falls to 5-14 overall and 1-12 in the league.

Following a three by Aaron Miller at the 9:49 mark of the second half to cut the FSU advantage to just five points (68-63), the Falcons went on a 16-4 run over the next four minutes of action to regain control of the game for good. The run featured four electrifying dunks, including three in a row to begin the run that helped spark the crowd for closing stretch of the game.

From that points, FSU continued to build its second lead to as many as 30 with 37 second remaining, before settling for a 27-point margin of victory.

Matt Bingaya, who scored just four points in the opening half of the game, finished with a team-high 19 for the Falcons. The Falcons also got 15 apiece from Thomas Wimbush and Vonte Montgomery, 12 from Shammgod Wells and 10 from Trevor Andrews-Evans.

Wells recorded his second-consecutive double-double, as he added 10 assists and seven steals to his 12 points scoring performance in the win. Andrew Emrick also came off the bench and added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Falcons shot nearly 53 percent from the field (40-of-76), scoring 60 points in the paint, 27 off turnovers and 18 on the fast-break. FSU also pulled down 16 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second-chance points.

Concord was limited to just 44 percent from the field, getting a game-high 32 points from Aaron Miller. Michael Sanchez also chipped in 11 and Patrick Eugene added seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds for the Mountain Lions.

FSU will now host UVa-Wise on Saturday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. Tip is set for 4 p.m. as a part of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader.
