ATHENS, W.Va. –
Matt Bingaya recorded a double-double and second-ranked Fairmont State rolled late in the second half to pull away with a 99-81 victory on Thursday night at the Carter Center.
With the win, Fairmont State improves to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Concord falls to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Fairmont State shot just under 56 percent from the field (38-of-68) and were led by Bingaya with 24 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Bingaya shot 10-of-15 from the field. The Falcons also got 18 points from
Vonte Montgomery, 16 from
D'Ondre Stockman, 14 from
Jason Jolly and 12 from
Thomas Wimbush.
Aaron Miller led Concord with 25 points and six rebounds, going 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Michael Sanchez also reached double-figures for Concord with 17.
CU held a 42-32 advantage on the glass and made nine three-pointers in the loss. Nineteen of Conord's rebounds were on the offensive end. Fairmont State, averaging 11 three-pointers per game this season, made just six three-pointers against the Mountain Lions.
Both teams had a solid evening from the charity stripe, with Concord going 18-of-20 and Fairmont sinking 17-of-20.
The Falcons return to action on Sunday evening when they host the University of Charleston at 4 p.m. inside Joe Retton Arena.
