FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State made quick work of UVa-Wise on Friday evening to open a weekend doubleheader at Joe Retton Arena for the FSU volleyball team. The Falcons defeated the Cavs in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-17.
Mackenzie Harrison tallied a team-high 19 kills to go with 10 digs and four total blocks in the victory.
Alyssa Kelly recorded double-digit kills for the first time in her career, as the junior finished the evening with 10 kills, nine digs and a match-high five blocks.
Emma Mobley also chipped in seven kills and a team-high 23 digs to help pace FSU.
Alexa Gore continued to pace the FSU offense from her setter position; recording 44 assists on Fairmont's 50 kills in the match. Gore now has six performances of 40 assists or more this season.
Megan Clerico joined Harrison and Mobely as the third FSU player to tally double-figure digs in the victory, as the junior libero finished the evening with 17.
FSU held statistical advantages in kills (50-26), digs (82-64), total blocks (12-4) and aces (4-2) in the sweep of the Cavs.
FSU (15-6, 6-2 MEC) will return to action on Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. tilt against Concord University.
