The Matchup
- Fairmont State returns home for a 4 p.m. matchup of 5-3 Mountain East Conference teams on Saturday afternoon as the Falcons will host West Virginia State at Duvall-Rosier Field.
- The Falcons used six field goals off the foot of Sam Keil to pick up an 18-15 overtime victory over Glenville State last Saturday. The game-winning field goal was Keil's third of the season.
FSU holds a 34-14-1 all-time record against West Virginia State, dating back to the 1969 season.
- With three games remaining Fairmont State has an opportunity to record only the fifth eight-win regular-season in school history since 1970. The Falcons are 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the Mountain East Conference.
 - FSU finished 10-2 overall last fall, including a 10-1 mark during the regular season. If the Falcons can win out this season it will be the program's first back-to-back regular seasons of eight or more wins since 1964 and 1965.
- The series between FSU and WV State has been relatively even the last 10 years. FSU holds a slight 6-4 advantage during that span, including a 30-20 victory in last year's season opener for both teams. In that game FSU overcame a 20-7 deficit with 23 unanswered points in the game's final 30:48.
- The Yellow Jackets, who have won four in a row, are also 5-3 overall, 4-3 in the league and possess one of the best offenses in both the conference and the country.
- West Virginia State is first in the nation in NCAA Division II in red zone offense. The Yellow Jackets have made 35 trips into the red zone this season and have scored all 35 times, including 23 touchdowns and 12 field goals.

Offensive Notebook
- With senior quarterback JuJuan Young-Battle sidelined for the remainder of the season redshirt sophomore quarterback Takwan Crews-Naylor stepped in and made his first collegiate start for the Falcons against Glenville State last Saturday.
- Crews-Naylor led Fairmont's offense on nine drives during regulation and the Falcons scored on five of those. He finished 19-of-33 passing for a career-high 178 yards. He didn't throw any touchdowns, but also didn't suffer any interceptions.
- On the season, Crews-Naylor has completed 24-of-43 passes for 210 yards, with an efficiency rating of 96.8.
- Seven different players caught passes for FSU in the win over Glenville. Laurence King led the way with six receptions for 61 yards, while Shawn Harris caught four passes for 36 yards and Alquawn Vickers had two catches for 32 yards.
- FSU has five receivers with double-digit receptions this season, led by Laurence King with 27 for 366 yards. Andre Hall, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season, has a team-high 385 yards on 26 receptions this season. Shawn Harris (21) and Jeff Iweh (20) also have more than 20 catches on the year for the Falcons.
- Senior running back Terrell Charles is leading the FSU ground attack with 391 yards on 106 carries with two touchdowns.
- The Fairmont State offense has struggled on third-down this season, converting on just 30-of-104 attempts. As a result, FSU possesses the ball just over 28 minutes per game this season.
- FSU is also averaging just 87.5 rushing yards per game and 2.8 yards per carry on the ground this season.

- Fairmont State's defense ranks third in the country with 23 forced turnovers this season. Missouri Western and East Stroudsburg lead the country in forced turnovers with 24 apiece.
- FSU is also third in NCAA Division II in interceptions, with 15 on the year. The Falcons trail Wayne State and Bemidji State with 16 interceptions apiece to lead the country.
- The FSU defensive front is also having a strong season despite the absence of the 2016 MEC Defensive Player of the Year, Quincy Redmon. The Falcons rank 17th in the country in sacks (3.13) and 12th in tackles for loss per game (8.6).
- In addition, Fairmont's five defensive touchdowns this season rank second in the country, trailing Bemidji State with six defensive touchdowns.
- 95 of Fairmont's 186 points this season have been off forced turnovers.
- Senior middle linebacker Marcus Porter is leading the FSU defense with 69 stops this season, including 41 solo stops. Porter also has 11 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery this season.
- Stephen Turner and Jeff Iweh are second on the team with 42 tackles and three interceptions each. Turner, Iweh and Michael Porter each have three interceptions to lead the FSU defense this season.

Special Teams Outlook
- Sam Keil was named D2Football.com National and Mountain East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after tying the NCAA Division II and Mountain East Conference record for field goals in a single game against Glenville State last Saturday at Morris Field.
- Keil provided all the scoring for Fairmont State in the 18-15 overtime win, hitting from 21, 46, 25, 37, 34 (twice) yards out.
- With 15 made field goals so far this season, Keil is currently tied for first at FSU in a single season - and has hit three decisive field goals to win games for the Falcons this season.
- His 24 made field goals rank third in school history.
- Keil's 46-yard field goal in the second half of Saturday's game set a new career-long for the senior.
- Keil also leads NCAA Division II in field goals per game (1.88)
- FSU punter Samuel Tucker ranks third in the MEC and 20th in the country in punting average at 41.4 yards per punt.

Scouting State
- For the fourth week in a row Fairmont State will face one of the top offenses in the Mountain East as West Virginia State is currently second in the MEC and 15th nationally in total offense (480.5 yards per game).
- West Virginia State is first in the nation in NCAA Division II in red zone offense. The Yellow Jackets have made 35 trips into the red zone this season and have scored all 35 times, including 23 touchdowns and 12 field goals.
- The Yellow Jackets are also second in the league and 27th in the nation in scoring (38.2).
 - The key to State's attack is senior quarterback Matt Kinnick, who has completed 194-of-295 passes for 2,144 yards and 17 touchdowns. He's been intercepted just six times. He currently ranks 16th in the nation in passing and second in the MEC.

Wilkins did not play in State's 39-33 overtime victory over West Liberty this past Saturday due to an ankle injury.
- State is trying to make a bid to record its first eight-win regular season since 1968. To do that the Yellow Jackets need to win out. State finished 11-0 in 1987, but had to forfeit all of those victories for using an ineligible player. In 2007 and 2008 State finished 7-3.
- Sophomore Darius Goode anchors the defense with 66 total tackles.
- Defensive back Kyle Alexander leads the Yellow Jacket secondary with 11 pass break-ups and an interception this season.
