SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Fairmont State dropped a five-set road match to Shepherd on Thursday evening at the Butcher Center in Shepherdstown (14-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-25, 15-11).
With the loss, FSU falls to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain East Conference. Shepherd improves to 12-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The Falcons, who once again got a match-high 21 kills from senior
Mackenzie Harrison, took an 11-point victory in set one and a 10-point win in set four but couldn't close out the match in the fifth and final set.
In addition to Harrison's performance, the Falcons also got 13 kills and 19 digs from fellow senior
Julia Shemaitis.
Megan Clerico led the way with 21 digs and
Emma Mobley chipped in 17 digs to go with seven kills.
Alexa Gore recorded a career-high 47 digs in the match, tallying her third-straight 40 assist performance.
Shepherd got a match-high 18 kills apiece from Cambriea Hill and Amanda Snowden. The Rams recorded a 9-4 advantage in aces.
FSU will head to Ohio over the weekend for a 7 p.m. match at Urbana on Friday and a 6 p.m. matchup with Notre Dame College on Saturday evening.
