INDIANA, Pa. -- Indiana (PA) broke open a two-point halftime lead in the second half of Tuesday's Atlantic Region showdown with Fairmont State to pick up a 74-59 victory at the Kovalchick Center. The loss allowed IUP to snap a three-game losing streak to Fairmont State over the past two seasons.
With the win, Indiana (PA) improves to 8-4 on the season, while Fairmont State slips to 7-4 heading into the holiday break.
In the loss, Fairmont State recorded its lowest single-game point total since its Atlantic Region Semifinal loss to West Liberty (89-59) back on March 15, 2015.
Fairmont State, who led by three at the 2:39 mark of the opening half, struggled on the offensive end of the floor for a majority of the night – managing just 32.2 percent from the field (19-of-59) and 24.2 percent from three (8-of-33). The Falcons also sank just 13-of-25 attempts from the free throw line (52.0%).
IUP dominated the paint all night, holding a 34-18 advantage in points in the paint. The Crimson Hawks also finished the evening with a 40-32 edge on the glass.
D'Ondre Stockman led the Falcons in scoring for the second-straight game, tallying 11 points. The Falcons also got 10 points apiece from
Caleb Davis and
Andrew Emrick.
Vonte Montgomery also filled the stat sheet for the Falcons with seven points, six rebounds, eight assists and four steals.
IUP, who shot nearly 47 percent from the floor and 84 percent from the free throw line, got a game-high 24 points from Anthony Glover. Malik Miller also chipped in 14 points and five rebounds while Jacobo Diaz added 13 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
The Falcons will now head into the holiday break, before returning to non-conference action on Saturday, Dec. 30 against Le Moyne. Tip is set for 4 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
