HARTVILLE, S.C. – Fairmont State struggled in its opening weekend of the season at the Coker Softball Tournament, dropping four games by five runs or less, including a 2-1 loss to Pfeiffer to open the season.
The Falcons led for six innings in their season opener against Pfeiffer after scoring on an RBI single down the right-field line by
Beth Cook. However, a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the six proved to be the difference and allowed Pfeiffer to edge the Falcons.
Following the heartbreaking finish in game one on Saturday afternoon, the Falcons dropped the second game of the day by a 5-0 margin against Columbus State. FSU opened Sunday by falling 4-0 to Bloomsburg before a 6-1 defeat in game two of the day against host Coker University.
Jenny Stubbs batted a team-high .333 over the weekend, going 3-for-9 in a trio starts for the Falcons.
Abbi Fetty added the lone extra-base hit of the weekend for FSU with a triple against Pfeiffer. Cook and
Taylor Wells drove in the only runs of the weekend for FSU.
FSU will return to action on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C. when the Falcons open the Shaw Challenge against Clarion.
