FSU Baseball Drops Two At Home

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Concord held off Fairmont State in game two of Thursday's Mountain East Conference doubleheader to sweep the Falcons, 9-0, 8-5, at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

With the losses, FSU falls to 13-14 overall and an even 5-5 in the MEC. Concord improves to 14-12 overall and 8-2 in the league.

With Concord holding a commanding 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning in game two, Johnny Kesling drilled a two-run shot to left center to close the margin to just two (5-3). Later in the inning, Tyler Krantz crossed home plate on a wild pitch to make the score 5-4 heading into the fifth.

The Mountain Lions responded in the top of the fifth, however, scoring on a Brett Simmons RBI single and a wild pitch to push their lead back to three (7-4).

Ben Myers hit the second home run of the day for FSU in the fifth, a solo shot to center field, but that would wrap up the scoring for FSU in the 8-5 defeat.

Austin Norman provided the opening run of the game for FSU, hitting an RBI double in the bottom of the first to bring home Myers.

The teams combined for seven errors in the second game of the day.

In the first game of the day, Concord ace Troy Beckner fanned 12 batters to lead Concord to a seven-inning shutout win over the Falcons. FSU recorded just four hits in the loss.

The Falcons will return to action on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader at UVa-Wise. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
