Urbana Takes Two From FSU Softball

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State dropped both ends of its doubleheader with Urbana on Monday afternoon, falling in game one by a score of 3-1 and game two 6-4.
 
Fairmont State falls to 13-21 overall on the season (6-10 MEC). Urbana improves to 12-14 overall (9-9 MEC).
 
In game one, Urbana broke the scoreless tie in the third inning with a groundout to second base that scored an RBI for the Blue Knights.
 
Fairmont's Beth Cook answered in the fourth inning, hitting a solo home run to bring in the only run of the game for the Falcons.
 
Urbana's final two runs scored off a fifth-inning, two-RBI single to make the final score 3-1.
 
Rachel Bias got the nod on the mound for the Falcons, striking out four batters in five innings if work. Samantha Hoban and Cook led the bats for Fairmont State with Hoban going 2-for-3 at the plate and Cook going 1-of-2 with the lone home run in the game.
 
In game two, Urbana scored four runs in the seventh inning to pick up the 6-4 win over the Falcons.
 
The offense started in the third inning with both teams trading solo home runs; Fairmont's third inning home run was hit by Addie Fullen, her third of the year.
 
After giving up a second run to Urbana in the fourth, Fairmont State took the lead with a three-run fifth inning, sparked by a two-RBI double by Cook.
 
Fairmont State remained in front by a 4-2 advantage until the bottom of the seventh when the Blue Knights plated four runs to get the 6-4 win.
 
Hannah Absalom pitched all seven innings for the Falcons, totaling six strikeouts in the loss. Fullen and Cook paced the Falcons at the plate, combining for four hits and three RBIs.
 
The Falcons will begin their southern Mountain East Conference road trip on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at Concord. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
