Â
In game one,
Addie Fullen got the Falcons on the board in the top of the first with a single up the middle that brought home
Whitley Mongan. Later in the inning during
Abby Burgess' at-bat, Fullen and
Samantha Hoban both scored unearned runs thanks to a throwing error by the WJU first baseman, putting the Falcons in front 3-0.
Â
Still in the first inning,
Jenny Stubbs made the score 4-0 on an RBI infield single that allowed
Beth Cook to cross home plate for another FSU run.
Â
After Wheeling got a run back in the bottom of the first, Stubbs delivered again for the Falcons in the third inning with a single to center field that brought home Cook, pushing Fairmont's advantage to 5-1.
Â
After WJU cut Fairmont's advantage to 5-3 in the bottom of the third, Burgess delivered what became the game-winning run in the top of the fifth on an infield groundout that brought home Hoban.
Â
Wheeling Jesuit scored a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings, but it was to late as the Falcons closed out the 6-5 win by getting the final three outs in the seventh.
Â
Despite another quick start in game two of the day, the Cardinals totaled seven runs in the final two innings of the game to earn a split. FSU scored four runs in the top of the first and led 6-2 in the middle of the fourth inning before WJU rallied for the win.
Â
Abbi Fetty led the Falcons at the plate in game two, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
Jordan Lewis also went 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI and run scored.
Â
The Falcons did do some damage on the base paths on Monday afternoon, finishing the day with six stolen bases as a team. Four different FSU players stole a base on the afternoon, including
Carly Clarke, Lewis, Hoban and Stubbs. Clarke and Lewis both stole a pair of bases.
Â
The Falcons will now prepare for a four-game series with Shepherd on Wednesday and Thursday in Shepherdstown. The first pitch of the series is set for 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
