FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Whitley Mongan's walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one allowed Fairmont State to earn a split with regionally ranked Charleston on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Despite just two hits in game one (both solo home runs), the Falcons did enough to get past the Golden Eagles for the win.
Charleston's Karli Pinkerton helped UC grab an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first with an infield RBI single to bring home Rachelle Toppings from third. Toppings got into scoring position by stealing second and third following a leadoff single in the inning.

The score remained the same until the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the seventh, Fairmont's Mongan, drilled a walk off home run to center field to end the game.
Rachel Bias (8-13) pitched a complete game to pick up the victory in the circle, allowing just a single run on seven hits on the afternoon. Bias struck out two. Alli Burdette (17-8), the 2016 Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Year, suffered the loss for UC – striking out five and allowing just two hits in the game.
In game two, the UC offense plated 10 runs in the first three innings to control the game and earn the split with the Falcons. FSU managed just four hits in game two, including just one extra-base hit (
