Harrison Sets Single Match Kills Record vs. Walsh

Falcons drop two on day one of the Rebich Investments Invitational

EDINBORO, Pa. -- Despite a record setting day for Mackenzie Harrison, Fairmont State dropped a pair of non-conference regional matchups on Friday - the opening day of the 2017 Rebich Investments Invitational at Edinboro University.

In the first match of the day, Harrison recorded a Fairmont State single-match record with 35 kills in a narrow five-set loss to Walsh (23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-8). In the match, Harrison recorded 85 total attacks and also tallied 33 digs and a pair of block assists.

Emma Mobley also reached double figures for the Falcons against Walsh, driving home 14 kills to go along with 25 digs. Jessica Furda finished just one assist shy of a new career-high with 60 against the Cavs. Megan Clerico was the third FSU player to record double-digit digs in the match, totaling 21 to go along with seven assists.

In the second match of the day, Bellarmine pulled out three-straight close sets to wrap up a sweep of FSU (26-24, 25-21, 28-26).

Harrison once again dominated play offensively with 23 kills and four block assists. After 85 attacks in the first match of the day, Harrison totaled 62 against the Knights. Morgan Poling and freshman Taylor Wisniewski each chipped in five kills apiece to contribute to the Falcon attack.

Megan Clerico (16), Jessica Furda (13) and Julia Shemaitis (11) each recorded double-digit digs against Bellarmine. Furda also tallied 32 assists in the match to record a double-double (assists-digs).
