FSU Handles Wesleyan In Thursday Night Showdown, 35-10

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored 20 points in the second quarter and rolled past previously unbeaten West Virginia Wesleyan, 35-10, on Thursday evening in the Mountain East Conference Game of the Week at Duvall-Rosier Field.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-1 overall, including a 2-0 mark in MEC action. The Bobcats fall to 2-1 both overall and in the league.

After a trio of Sam Keil field goals in the opening quarter to give the Falcons a 9-7 lead after 15 minutes of action, the Falcons scored 20 points in the second quarter and went to the locker room with a commanding 29-7 advantage.

Following a West Virginia Wesleyan turnover at the 13:50 mark of the second quarter, JuJuan Young-Battle found Laurence King for a 59-yard touchdown strike, getting the Falcons into the endzone for the first time on the evening.

Less than two minutes later, Terrell Charles pushed his way into the endzone from two yards out to make Fairmont's advantage 22-7 at the 11:50 mark of the second. The score was set up by a 44-yard pass to Andre Hall and a Wesleyan pass interference penalty on the first two plays of the drive to give the Falcons a first down at the two-yard line.

Young-Battle added to Fairmont's halftime point total with just over two minutes remaining in the quarter, capping an 11-play, 55-yard drive with a four-yard quarterback keeper.

Young-Battle added one more touchdown in the second half, a 13-yard pass to Jeff Iweh late in the third quarter to put the final points of the evening on the scoreboard.

Fairmont State began emptying its bench in the fourth quarter as neither teams scored in the final 17 minutes of play.

Young-Battle ended his day going 16-of-21 for 271 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the victory. A majority of his damage was to Hall, who ended the evening with 143 yards on seven receptions. Shawn Harris also grabbed four catches for 50 yards in the win.
