FSU Rallies For Huge In-Region Road Win

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- After dropping a pair of close sets to open Tuesday evening's match at Seton Hill, Fairmont State took the final three sets to pick up the come-from-behind victory over the Griffins in a critical Atlantic Region showdown (22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13, 15-7).

Mackenzie Harrison continued her strong start to the season by recording 30 kills, 20 digs and six blocks in the victory. The Falcons also got 12 kills from Emma Mobley and 10 from Morgan Poling in the five-set thriller. Poling also chipped in five blocks around the net for FSU.

In the win, Mackenzie Harrison moved into seventh place in school history with 1,535 career kills in her FSU career. Harrison passed Cheyanne Stanley to move into seventh place and needs just 12 more kills to overtake Tracey Rowe for sixth in the FSU record book.

FSU newcomer Taylor Wisniewski also turned in a strong performance for FSU with seven kills and five blocks assists in the win.

Senior setter Jessica Furda finished the match just five assists shy of her career-high, totaling 56 assists to go along with 15 digs. Megan Clerico recorded a team-high 26 digs.

Statistically the match was even, with both teams recording six aces and 11 blocks apiece. The difference in the match, however, came in sets three, four and five, when the Falcons totaled just 11 errors combined in all three sets. FSU had 11 errors in set one and eight in set two – dropping both sets to open the match.

Leah Bisignani finished the evening with a team-high 14 kills for the Griffins.

FSU will now prepare for its home opener on Friday evening, when West Liberty comes to town for a 6 p.m. MEC contest.
