FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After dropping the first set of Friday's match against West Liberty (25-22), Fairmont State took the next three sets (25-22, 25-14, 25-22) to open Mountain East Conference play in the win column. After a sloppy start to the match, the Falcons committed just four errors in the third set and five in the fourth set to earn the victory.

With the win, FSU improves to 9-4 overall, including a 1-0 mark in Mountain East Conference play. West Liberty falls to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Mackenzie Harrison was the only FSU player to reach double-figures kills, as the senior filled the stat sheet with 24 kills, 29 digs and three blocks assists in the victory. The Falcons also got nine kills and seven blocks assists from
Emma Mobley, eight kills and two block assists from
Alyssa Kelly and three kills and seven total blocks (two solo) from
Taylor Wisniewski.
Fairmont State held a 15-9 advantage in blocks against the Hilltoppers.

With senior setter
Jessica Furda sidelined due to injury,
Alexa Gore stepped in and recorded a career-high 45 assists and 20 digs from her setter position.
Megan Clerico (26) and
Julia Shemaitis (13) also recorded double-digit digs in the match.

FSU will now prepare for a 2 p.m. match against the defending MEC Champion Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. Fairmont State SAAC will be hosting a maroon-out day for the match.
