FSU Drops Home Match to Cardinals

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State was edged 25-23 in the first two sets of Saturday's Mountain East Conference matchup with Wheeling Jesuit, and fell in three sets to the Cardinals (25-23, 25-23, 25-14) at Joe Retton Arena.
 
The first two sets were back and fourth with both teams leading in each set, before WJU rolled in set three to wrap up the victory. The Falcons recorded six of its nine blocks in the opening set, as FSU held a 9-4 advantage in blocks during the match.
 
Mackenzie Harrison led FSU with 17 kills and 19 digs in the match. Emma Mobley chipped in eight kills and four blocks, and Taylor Wisniewski added seven kills and seven total blocks to help pace the FSU offense.
 
Alexa Gore once again led the FSU offense from her setter position, tallying 40 assists and 10 digs for her second-consecutive double-double. Julia Shemaitis (19) and Megan Clerico (16) joined Harrison and Gore with double-digit digs in the match.
 
Haley Kramer led the Cardinals with 15 kills on 29 attacks in the victory. Cassie Meyer also reached double-digit kills with 13 to go along with 19 digs. Stephanie Sylvester paced the WJU offense with 41 assists and 13 digs.
 
FSU will now be idle until Tuesday, Oct. 3, as FSU will hit the road for five-straight matches, starting with a trip to Shepherd for its first road MEC match of the year.
