Falcons Fall Short In Overtime, 78-70

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – After Fairmont State used a furious fourth quarter rally to force overtime, Notre Dame College survived in overtime to pick up a 78-70 victory over the Falcons. NDC outscored Fairmont State 14-6 in overtime, including a 9-2 run in the first three minutes of overtime to allow Notre Dame to take control.
 
With the loss, Fairmont State falls to 7-8 overall, including 3-7 in the league. NDC remains in second place in the MEC standings with a 12-5 overall record (8-2 MEC).
 
Notre Dame College opened the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run to grab a 12-point lead over Fairmont State with just 7:29 remaining in the game. Fairmont State would regroup though, going on its own 9-0 spurt following a timeout to close the Notre Dame lead to just three at the 2:47 mark.
 
Notre Dame would push its lead back to six, but Fairmont State went on a 6-0 in the final 2:01 of the quarter to force the extra period. Sierra Kotchman finished hard at the rim on an isolation drive to knot the game at 64-64 at the end of regulation.
 
Fairmont State outshot Notre Dame (45.5-39.1) and held a 10-rebound advantage on the glass in the loss.
 
Kotchman finished the afternoon with a team-high 17 points to lead Fairmont State. Brooke Kurucz also reached double figures for the Falcons with 15. Senior Kelli Jo Harrison chipped in eight points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
 
Notre Dame used a balanced offensive attack, getting 16 points apiece from Seina Adachi and Maggie King and 12 points apiece from Kim Cook and Marisa Finazzo. Cook recorded a double-double by also pulling down 12 boards.
 
NDC forced 24 Fairmont State turnovers and scored 27 points off turnovers in the victory.
 
Fairmont State will now return home to host league-leading Glenville State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
